Description
M/V Union Jack is a 1941 80’ foot tug
The pictures do no justice, this is a very special vessel & must be seen to appreciate
Travel aboard a piece of Canadian cultural history. The Union Jack is a 1941 heritage tug, hand-built in Deep Cove, British Columbia from old growth Canadian timber. 12"x12" timbers on 20" centers.
**Numerous surveys on file ; including a Transport Canada trim and stability report**
History of the Union Jack
The spirited history of a uniquely Canadian treasure. The Union Jack was originally built in Canada as a tugboat (commissioned in 1941) to serve Canada's Royal Navy during the Second World War.
In 2015 it was decided that this one was worth saving!. She received a multi-million dollar refit (restoration) spanning the better part of 6 years. With absolutely, no expense spared... she’s as close to original as you’re going to get on a 70-year-old vessel. All new plumbing, electrical wiring and much more.
Launched in Nov. 1941, she patrolled with the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War, hauling barges/timber and supplies up and down the West coast. After the war she would continue working shuttling larger vessels in and out of Vancouver harbour. Then spent time as a floating lodge for fishing charters and spent time as a personal Yacht. Today she’s chartered for sightseeing & fishing expeditions. Commercial certified by Transport Canada and a (condition and evaluation) survey from 2020 vessels, appraised market value of $4 million (CAD$).

Union Diesel Engine
Revolutionary in the 1950s, the Union Jack is powered with a Union Diesel Engine. These 6-cylinder engines came from San Francisco, California. Were known for being a leader in industrial engine production. (Only the best for the Navy).
Their engines were soon used in a variety of vessels from tugboats, passenger ferries (such as the North Vancouver Ferry), to cargo ships and leisure yachts. The brand’s reputation for producing high-quality products ensured that ships with Union Diesel engines were reliable for long-haul trips, pulling heavy cargo and rough weather.
