Brokers Comments:
The Chris Craft 38 Commander was the first all-fiberglass inboard cruiser model built by this legendary yacht company.
The design is retro-classic and interior and exterior trim details abound that enhance the appeal of this well-kept vessel. Being boathouse-kept the exterior is in good condition overall with minor gelcoat wear showing in spots and some brightwork refinishing is needed. During this era of boat building in Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP - fiberglass) construction was typically hand laid to a heavy build up of material layers making these boats especially tough.
The interior is classic Chris Craft in detail with mid-century mahogany cabinetry and paneling, fiberglass molded sink and counter in the marine head compartment, and a magnificent helm station, typical of these yachts.
Upgrades include a Magnasine 2000 watt inverter/charger, basic Garmin and Icom electronics, Bluetooth-capable Clarion stereo and Toshiba microwave for the galley. The boat will sleep up to four with a large double berth up forward in a private cabin and upper/lower singles in the saloon. This is a nice boat for entertaining as well, with distinct spaces for guests to gather in the lower saloon, the enclosed helm area, and the open cockpit aft. There is a flybridge with very basic controls suitable for docking and close maneuvering. There is no built-in seating on the flybridge. Normal boat operation would be from the lower helm.
This boat has the appeal of the classic Chris Craft line of yachts without the maintenance concerns that go with a wooden boat. And, it is priced to sell now. If you are looking for a Chris Craft classic for summer day tripping, Puget Sound cruising, or maybe a boat for one of the big lakes this one deserves your attention.
