Description

The Steve Seaton designed Seaton 42 is a true ocean passage maker. She has a 65,000# displacement and 17,000# of ballast. One of her cruises of note was to Bermuda. With her Naiad stabilizers, A/C and amidships berths, she remains comfortable under a range of sea conditions. She is a true small ship that has been well maintained by two very experienced yachtsmen

Construction

Flag blue Airex cored fiberglass hull, gray decks and white deck-houses; long skeg keel with fully supported rudder. She is a raised pilot-house design. The pilot-house has ‘Dutch’ access doors port and starboard; heavy rub-rails; asymmetric cabin arrangement with fore-and aft covered side deck on the port side. The deep cockpit is partially covered by the boat deck. Welded stainless steel rails forward of the pilot house. The fore deck has a substantial (carbon fiber sheathing over wood) mast with lifting boom and riding sail; Wesmar 10 HP, 24 volt, electric bow thruster (1999); Naiad active fin stabilizers (1996 w/ updates); hydraulic steering; emergency tiller; 10 bronze ports (2007).

Accommodations

She has 6’6” headroom and 5 berths.

 

The pilothouse has an amidships helm, settee and anthwartships watch berth. Three steps down and aft is the main salon with a horseshoe seating arrangement and drop-leaf table. The galley is forward to starboard.  The master stateroom is amidships to port with a head opposite to starboard. A large open stateroom with bunks port and starboard is forward with another head in the forepeak. These berths can convert to settees for day use. There is a stand-up portion of the engine room with a work-bench; and there is a small deep cockpit aft of the salon.

 

The fully equipped galley has a Force 10 - 3 burner LPG stove with oven (2010); microwave oven; Isotherm 12/110 volt refrigerator and freezer. There is a separate Norcold freezer in the forward stateroom.

The yacht has hot and cold pressure water to the two heads and the galley. She has one electric and one manual marine toilet. Each head has a sink and vanity; one has a shower.

The yacht has a Herreshoff style interior with painted bulkheads teak and mahogany trim, teak and holly sole; vinyl headliner; beige fabric upholstery in the main salon. She has 3 Cruisaire air-conditioning units (16,000 BTW each) plus a bus-type heater which runs off of the engine. 

Tankage

 2 black-Iron fuel tanks with a total capacity of 500 gallons. There are sighting glasses for each tank. There is a 200 gallon water capacity in fiberglass tanks; and 100 gallon holding tank capacity in a fiberglass tank. The water and holding tanks have a Groco tank monitoring system. The holding tank may be evacuated dock-side or over board. There are 2 – 10 lb. LPG tanks.

1982 Ford ‘Iveco’ 167 HP, 8.1 ltr. naturally aspirated, 6 cylinder, diesel engine model: SDD-681M; Twin Disc transmission w/ 3:1 reduction gear; Walters keel-cooler with dry exhaust; cruising speed: 7.5 kts.@ 1800; 2 GPH @ 6.5 kts.; hour meter showing 5,900 to the time of listing; 2.5” propeller shaft; Drive-Saver; Spurs on the shaft; remote lubricating oil filtration on the main engine; fuel polishing system; fuel transfer pump; 2 Racor fuel filters with a vacuum gauge; engine room blower; sea-water intake filter; Halon fire suppression system in the engine room; engine instrumentation and start-stop in both the engine room and the pilot-house.
