Description
Thomas Gillmer Custom Pocket Trawler for sale.
Thomas Gillmer (2011-2009) was a naval architect and chairman of the Marine Engineering department at the US Naval Academy. He designed several lines of popular and seaworthy fiberglass yachts, including SOUTHERN CROSS, ALLIED SEAWIND, and ALLIED SEAWIND MK2.
Gillmer designed this single diesel trawler for use in his retirement. It was built at the Martha’s Vineyard Boatyard and originally launched in 1983.
It is perfectly built for coastal cruising, with a fuel efficient Westerbeke W-58 diesel engine, a draft of just 3’ 9”, and a mainsail and jib for use when needed.
The systems are design for comfortable cruising for a couple or three persons, but above all are designed for simplicity and low maintenance.
The hull is essentially a sailboat hull and travels at sailboat motoring speed (6 knots +-). The pilothouse provides protection, comfort and visibility in any weather. Whether cruising the coast, enjoying moonrise over the ocean or sipping morning coffee, the pilothouse is an enjoyable place to be.
The ample stateroom with long, comfortable berths, adjacent vacuum-flush toilet and hot shower provides a good place for sleeping, napping, and reading.
The engine is conveniently located under the pilothouse sole, and is easily accessible by lifting a large panel in the sole, just aft of the steps down into the galley.
