Description
Welcome to Points North III
Points North III is a tested Alaskan veteran of many cruising seasons, as well as many summers in British Columbia's inland waters, including Puget Sound and presently residing on the Columbia River. Built in 1986, this vessel is 42ft in length, powered by a Ford Lehman inboard engine Super 135, and a 7.5 KW generator with a standalone hydraulic get-home feature. Accommodations include the sought after Center Queen master cabin.
Boat Details
In the past ten years, Points North's owners have taken exceptional care and have invested in many improvements. What makes her so exceptional includes:
- Much higher than average overall condition
- Stored in fresh-water covered moorage for at least the last decade (Moorage is assumable!)
- Commercial Ship Captain/Chief Engineer owned -- and it shows!
- Get-Home system that uses generator power if needed.
- Oil sample history
- A complete electronics package required for long-range cruising.
- Well thought out and implemented improvements in the galley, pilothouse and throughout the boat.
Note: The 75’ boathouse with two-story apartment is also available through a separate sale.
Construction
Hull is fiberglass sandwich construction using closed-cell PVC foam core. Closed-cell PVC foam does not deteriorate or absorb water. Fiberglass schedule uses a heavy hand lay-up mat and roving. The composite structure serves as both a buoyancy material and an insulator against shock, sound, and temperature. It rides quietly, increases impact strength, and eliminates condensation build-up inside the hull. Decks and superstructure are constructed using the fiberglass sandwich method.
Salon
The Salon is entered through two teak doors (with snap-on screens) off the covered back deck. On the port side, there are two leather swivel chairs and a Dickinson diesel stove with water-heating coils to heat both state rooms. To starboard, a full couch, outlets w/USB charging ports, and a four-place folding dinner table with chairs.
Both cabin windows are sliders with screens and window covers, keeping the interior bright and cool. Side-slider Windows are complete with blinds that offer full privacy. Parquet wood floors give a nautical feel. There is one wall-mounted lamp and one 12v lamp mounted under the upper galley cabinets. There are 3 original ceiling lights, 2 with red/white light switches for night running. All lights have been upgraded to LED. 32 inch flat screen TV with Blu-ray player, Bluetooth compatible for Starlink, and 12v TV antenna.
Galley
The U-shaped galley is forward of the salon and to the starboard. An open port allows light and natural ventilation. There is generous storage in drawers and cabinets. The major components are:
- Newer Refrigerator/Freezer side-by-side 120V/12V. Next to the refrigerator is a custom-built-in cabinet with long locking pullout drawers and matching louvered doors. (2021)
- Newer Dickinson 3-burner Galley propane stove with oven
- Deep double stainless steel sink single lever Moen faucet with sprayer
- Separate filtered drinking water at the sink faucet
- Galley counter with crumb corners
- Large galley porthole and fan
- Hi/low LED lighting
- Microwave built in on galley base cabinet
Master Stateroom
The master stateroom is forward and features a rare, highly desirable, centerline island queen bed. The mattress, with a custom-fit cloth hinge in the middle, allows easy access to both storage compartments beneath the master bed. Six large drawers under the bed and a large vented compartment accessed from under the mattress provide ample storage.
A double-door hanging locker with shelves is located on the port side; an additional closet forward for hanging clothes, with multiple shelves and access to the chain locker. The starboard vanity has a large mirror with storage cabinet above and 14 drawers below. The screened opening hatch and opening portholes provide natural ventilation, keeping the room light and airy. A pull-down ladder is mounted in the opening hatch to provide an emergency escape.
Guest Stateroom
The guest stateroom is down three steps from the galley, to starboard. It features an enlarged opening with folding door and a settee that converts to a berth. A Pullman berth is hinged on the forward bulkhead with a desk, shelves, and custom lighting. This cabin also includes cabinets and drawer storage, a large hanging locker, and bookshelves. Two screened opening ports give light and ventilation.
Companionway Below
An easily accessible chest freezer,110V 4.5 cf, is located next to the ladder. Above is a newer ventless 110V washer dryer, a must-have for extended cruising. Original overhead light with red/white switch for night running.
Head
The head is located opposite the guest stateroom on the port side. It features a large stall shower with integrated seat and plexiglass door, two opening ports, a vanity with a medicine cabinet, and a rebuilt Vacuum-Flush toilet with a tank sensor. The sink has single-lever Moen fixtures, and the screened opening ports provide additional light and ventilation. There is ample storage in the cabinets and on the shelves. Also, two 110V transformers are located under the countertop. This is for the 50A shore power service, covering both legs and providing protection against updated marina shore power hook-up and polarity issues.
Pilothouse
The pilothouse is up three steps from the salon. It features an expansive helm area with large windows and a director's wood helm chair with armrests. Latched and hooked Dutch doors to port and starboard, and an opening center windshield keeps the pilothouse cool while underway. The berth converts to a double bed with a foam mattress for guests. A custom-built removable table is mounted on a standpipe in the center of the settee.
Back Deck
This large and flexible area includes a newer Strataglass enclosure & fishing rod storage.
