The 2000 McKinna 48 Pilothouse is known for its robust, yacht‑grade mechanical engineering, blending Taiwanese craftsmanship with reliable American and Japanese components. Below is a comprehensive breakdown of the vessel’s major mechanical systems.

Propulsion System Main Engines

• Twin Cummins 6CTA 8.3‑liter diesel engines (450 HP each)
• Port 2336 Hours   Starboard 2336 hours
• Straight‑shaft inboard configuration with V-Drive marine gear transmissions
• Freshwater‑cooled engines with heat exchangers.
• Raw‑water intake system with bronze seacocks and strainers.
• Wet exhaust system with fiberglass mufflers
• Engine‑driven alternators supplying house and start banks.

Performance Notes

• Typical cruise: 15–17 knots
• Fuel burn at cruise: ~24–28 GPH combined (varies by engine package)

Refit Task Completed 2020-2026:

• Stripped both engines down to the heads and block. Stopped all corrosion and repainted the engines.
• Service the heat exchangers, replaced transmission coolers, replaced the after coolers, new Raw water pumps, and freshwater flush system. Replace the alternators and one starter.
• Built new Starboard Exhaust w/ new shower head and installed new exhaust blankets.
• Most of the brackets on the engines have been powder-coated. Main guard covers have been powder-coated.
• Removed all batteries, water heater. Redesigned the battery bank to a 1200 AH AGM off-grid bank. New AGM Starter bank and generator. All new battery wiring and select switches.
• Relocated the water heater to a horizontal position on the port side. This opened access to the starboard engine for oil and filter changes.
• Installed Oil pan heaters.
• Mechanical oil pressure gauges.
• Installed Dual Spin on Cummins Fuel filter assembly (four stages of filtration), with a vacuum gauge and
• filter bypass system.
• Had both fuel tanks professionally emptied and cleaned. At the same time, I installed valves on the bottom of the tanks for a fuel polishing system.
• Installed custom fuel manifold and fuel polishing system.
• Rebuilt the port turbo. Replaced Starboard turbo.
• Installed SMX Crank Case Ventilation system.
• New belt tensioners.

Fuel Delivery

• Racor filters were removed and replaced with dual Cummins filter assemblies (4-stage). Backed up vy an emergency bypass feed from the fuel polishing system.
• Fuel POlishing system
• Dedicated Racor filter for the generator.
