The 252 Fisherman measures 24’4” LOA and 8’9” beam. Her 20 degree deadrise makes easy work of offshore conditions, and her draft is 29.5” with her engines down. Maximum horsepower rating is 450, and her fuel capacity is 180 gallons. She weighs about 4,680 pounds and her engineering and construction are both executed using the highest standards.
We had a breezy day for our test of the Wellcraft 252 Fisherman. Powered by twin 150 horsepower Yamaha four-stroke outboards, we got up on a plane in 5.0 seconds and we reached 30 miles an hour in 6.8 seconds. Our top speed of 49.7 miles an hour was reached at 5850 rpm, and our optimal cruising speed was at 31.8 mph at 4000 rpm for a range of 405 statute miles. That’s the kind of distance you need to be able to cover if you’re planning to do some serious fishing. She rode well in the really sloppy conditions we saw, and was responsive and maneuverable in the breezy conditions at the dock.
