Engine Notes
The Albin 28 Tournament Express is one of the most respected pocket sportfishing boats ever built. Known for its seaworthy design, efficient single-diesel performance, and versatile layout, the 28 TE delivers big-boat capability in a manageable size. With a wide 10-foot beam, full keel for protection, and a comfortable pilothouse, this model is equally at home offshore chasing tuna or cruising the coast with family and friends.
This particular 2005 Tournament Express stands out for its extensive upgrades, careful maintenance, and thoughtful outfitting by experienced owners. The proven 315-hp Yanmar 6LP diesel provides excellent reliability and economical cruising speeds around 18 knots, while the 4-blade prop and trolling valve setup give smooth control at all speeds.
Inside, the cabin offers comfortable accommodations with a convertible V-berth, enclosed head with shower, galley with stainless sink, microwave, single-burner stove, and new refrigerator. The extended pilothouse roof provides shade and protection from the elements, while large windows and opening hatches ensure good ventilation and visibility.
On deck, anglers will appreciate the large cockpit with baitwell, fish boxes, tackle storage, and rocket launchers. Recent additions include new outriggers, a bimini top with shades, and a fresh bottom job. The electronics suite features a full Garmin package with radar, autopilot, sonar, and chartplotters, plus a Standard Horizon VHF and new Richie compass.
If you’ve been searching for a clean, well-upgraded Albin 28 with solid ownership history, this is an exceptional opportunity. Currently en route from Fort Bragg to the Bay Area, with more photos and a full video walkthrough coming soon.
