Description
Introduction
"Impromptu" was custom built for dinner cruises with friends and family and has a cockpit that accommodates twelve plus has broad side decks and hand-holds that make it safe for children and adults to move about safely on the boat. Built masterfully by Joe Reid at Mast & Mallet Boatworks on the Chesapeake Bat near Annapolis, "Impromptu" is a superb example of cold-molded yacht. She was designed by renowned naval architect Mike Kaufman and has been owned and operated by the same diligent, knowledgeable, and responsible owner since new.
The construction features a very strong, lightweight hull, cold-molded to one inch thick with two layers of cedar and bonded with Gougeon Bros. WEST Epoxy. The exterior is saturated with epoxy and sheathed in two layers of 10 oz. fiberglass cloth for exceptional strengh and abrasion resistance, while all interior surfaces are covered with an epoxy barrier coating for a clean, finished appearance. This modern wood construction technique minimizes the maintenance problems typically associated with traditional wood vessels.
Accommodations
Stepping into the cockpit from the centerline transom door, there are two built-in seats at the aft corners with storage and access to the running gear. The teak sole is in great condition with no issues. Walking forward there are two large engine boxes (with large cushions) to port and starboard with electric/mechanical lifts for ease of use.
For cockpit dining or cocktails, there is a varnished teak table with four teak and canvas folding chairs.
Moving forward, through the canvas and clear drop curtains, you enter the settee area to port and galley up to starboard. The settee is finely upholstered and seats four and converts to a double bed when the table is lowered. Below the seating is storage and a separate, large auxiliary freezer compartment. The galley consists of a Schott ceramic dual cooktop, storage drawers, trash compartment, GE Profile stainless steel oven/microwave, Origo EXD 1000 dishwasher, Raritan "Icer-Ette" ice maker, and a Frigoboat stainless steel refrigerator/freezer. Also included is a full complement of flatware, cups, plates and glasses plus pots and pans.

There is also a cabled engine controls system for ease of use while raising the anchor if short-handed.
To port is a large STIDD companion seat also with ultra-leather surfaces, a foot rest, vertical chart and book compartment, cup holders, and a nicely stowed (hidden) pop-up flat screen tv.
Both sides of the sliding companionway door house the 12 volt main panel and the 120 volt shore power system as well as the controls for the ONAN 6.5 kw generator.
Proceed down two steps through the companionway leading to the marine head compartment on the starboard side with a stainless steel sink, Vacu-Flush toilet, storage areas and a wonderful separate shower stall.
To port is a sitting area with storage areas below and behind. This couch converts to upholstered bunk beds that serves as a sleeping area for guests.
Forward of this is the owners cabin with a very large v-berth and loads of storage areas, all trimmed in fine joinery work. The v-berth comes with a custom set of quality sheets. Overhead is a large hatch with screen for great ventilation. In addition, there is a hidden, built-in A&B Safe for peace of mind while ashore.
