Description
Mangusta: History and Overview
Mangusta was founded in 1985 by the Balducci family under the Overmarine Group. The name "Mangusta" was strategically chosen as a challenge to the leading open yacht brand of the time, Cobra by Tecnomarine - the mongoose being the only animal that can fight and defeat cobras.
Mangusta established itself as a luxury yacht manufacturer known for high-performance open sports yachts and has become synonymous with Italian craftsmanship and innovative design in the superyacht industry.
Mangusta 72 Sports Yacht:
The Mangusta 72 represents a significant model in the company's portfolio, showcasing their expertise in high-performance sports yacht design.
Specifications and Performance: The Mangusta 72 is a 22.23-meter (approximately 73-foot) yacht with hardtop and semi-enclosed saloon, featuring a draft of 1.15 meters and capable of reaching speeds up to 40 knots. Built with a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) construction and planing hull design, the yacht can accommodate six guests in three cabins.
Development of the Mangusta 72 began in 1999, with the first model entering production in 2002. The model was produced from 1999 to 2011, representing over a decade of continuous refinement and evolution.
Market Position: The Mangusta 72 originally sold for €3.5 million but is no longer in production. The model represented Mangusta's commitment to combining luxury accommodation with high-performance capabilities, typical of their open sports yacht philosophy.
The Mangusta 72 exemplified the brand's dedication to creating yachts that blur the line between luxury cruising and high-speed performance, establishing a template that would influence subsequent Mangusta designs throughout the 2000s.
'7 Zero' is a commercially registered sports yacht and has been used for a few exclusive charters.
