PRELIMINARY LISTING
HULL & DECK
*** If interested, the charter business and the vessel can be purchased for $125,000. The charter business will include an 8,000 lb mooring in the Benjamin River and a 14' Boston Whaler for 6 passengers and a new Yamaha 2.5 hp outboard***
HULL:
- AQUILA is an impressive vessel, and is structurally and cosmetically superior in every respect.
- White hull topsides, green boot top, red bottom paint.
- Very graceful hull shape, with long overhangs, typical of the Sparkman & Stephens designs of the late 1950's era, designed to the CCA rule.
- Hull is double planked Honduras Mahogany with splined seams over steamed white oak frames.
- The planking is fastened by copper rivets.
- The hull has undergone an excellent rebuilding; the bottom was wooded in 1993, and many of the frames were sistered, which is typical of vessels of this vintage.
- The frames are 1.5" x 1.75" with 10.5" centers.
- The floors are S/S or Monel at mast area; Monel around centerboard trunk, and white oak elsewhere.
- The topsides have been splined and glued (this is a very tight and durable hull).
- The centerboard trunk is Monel, while the centerboard is made of bronze.
- The keel, stem and part of the centerboard trunk are made of white oak; keel bolts are 1 1/4".
- Large cockpit bridge deck with offset companionway to starboard.
- Bronze mast step.
DECK:
- Framing of white oak, with plywood sub decking.
- A layer of polypropylene fiberglass cloth and epoxy covers the entire deck and trunk cabin roof.
- The decks are painted with an off-white Awlgrip while the trunk cabin roof is finished in buff Awlgrip.
- The excellent dodger, new in 2002, is of beige Sunbrella as are the sail covers.
- The custom stainless stanchions support double lifelines all around.
- The self-bailing cockpit features varnished Honduras mahogany trim with natural laid and caulked teak seats, and teak cockpit sole.
- S/S bow and stern rails.
- Rudder has been covered in glass cloth and epoxy resin.
- Edson pedestal wheel steering and binnacle compass.
- Bronze barrel-type seacocks throughout.
- 3 opening bronze portlights and 6 fixed bronze portlights; bronze deck hardware.

- Further aft to port is a U-shaped, efficient galley with one S/S sink, a S/S Shipmate 3 burner stove and oven, a S/S lined icebox with 2020 engine driven Seafrost refrigerator-freezer, granite countertops, and numerous drawers/lockers.
- To starboard is a full sit-down Nav table with chart storage and mounted electronics.
- The interior finish is to the highest standards in the Herreshoff-style with varnished mahogany trim and hull ceiling, white bulkheads, natural-finish teak cabin sole, and white overhead.
- The berth cushions are a forest green Sunbrella in very good condition.
- At the base of the companionway ladder is the centerboard case, and due to her generous beam, this centerline case/trunk acts as an ideal hand-hold.
- Engine access is behind the companionway ladder, and also the back of the engine may be accessed through the generous-sized starboard sail locker.
- There is also a very large port sail locker and lazarette.

AQUILA is the most handsome 43' Sparkman & Stephens K/CB Yawls, built to the highest standards by Tore Holm in Sweden in 1957. Her present owner first purchased her in 1977 when she was located in Greece. He cruised her through the Mediterranean and then sailed her across to the West Indies before returning to Maine. He sold her in 1982 after several more trips to the Caribbean. In 2014, he purchase her for the second time, and has since made several trips to Cuba and the Bahamas. Presently he has Captained and chartered her out of Brooklin, Maine. She is truly and iconic, Classic S&S Yawl, built to the highest standards of a double planked mahogany hull, copper riveted, and with many upgrades as listed above. She is completely ready to continue coastal or offshore cruising. Please come and inspect this outstanding pedigree yawl.
