Description
RASCAL is a time capsule of the timeless Hinckley style and unsurpassed build quality. She is a two owner boat who, since build completion in 1972, has spent almost all her summers at Grindstone in Winter Harbor, Maine; and winter storage at the Hinckley Yard in Southwest Harbor. Both present, and commissioning owner were/are experienced sailors who have kept RASCAL as original as possible while keeping all her gear working and functional. She is currently in storage in Southwest Harbor and awaits a new owner to appreciate all she has to offer.
INTRODUCTION: RASCAL is a keel/centerboard Hinckley 48 Sloop who sleeps 8 in three cabins. The classic traditional mahogany interior has 6' 9" headroom in the main salon, is finished in satin varnish with varnished teak and holly sole. While well loved and sailed she is kindly preserved to nearly the same specification as when she was finished.
HULL:
- Vivid Red topsides (Applied by Hinckley SWH)
- Decks/superstructure/painted nonskid are Granada Gray.
- Gold leaf cove stripe.

Construction
- One piece molded hand laid fiberglass hull. Deck, deckhouse, and cockpit are fiberglass molded in one piece with the deck balsa core molded providing a light but rigid structure. Deck is set into a 6” flange in the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.
- Nonskid is painted onto the deck and cockpit seating
- Keel: External 10,600 lb. lead keel is fastened with Everdur bolts.
- Centerboard: Bronze 940 lb. centerboard with Hinckley worm-gear lift with override - Electric with manual back-up.
- Varnished teak rub rail with stainless steel cap.
Deck features:
- Stainless steel stem head with bow roller and integrated line chocks.
- Stainless steel bow and stern pulpits.
- SS Stanchions with double lifelines and boarding gates.
- Varnished teak toe rails
- Varnished dorade boxes, handrails, aft lazarette box and covers and cockpit coaming.
- Double dorades forward, scoops painted white inside with a varnished teak storage box between.
- Stainless steel dorade guard.
- Stainless steel mast guard rail port and starboard.
- Stainless steel genoa tracks mounted on toe rail.
- Two hatches with varnished teak boxes and translucent covers.

COCKPIT:
Aft cockpit has varnished teak coamings, a forward bridge deck and Edson pedestal wheel steering:
Large opening cockpit seats provide access to storage bins and sail lockers.

INTERIOR INTRODUCTION:
From the cockpit, the companionway steps lead down to the main cabin with the galley set to port and navigation station opposite to starboard with a full-width main salon immediately forward. Aft to port is the master stateroom with an ensuite private head. Forward of the main salon is the forward head and stateroom.
Interior is finished:
- Satin-varnished mahogany interior.
- White overhead
- Varnished teak & holly sole.
- Two opening overhead hatches, four portlights along the side of the coach house, and 2 portlights in hull alongside the settees
- Locker doors throughout are mahogany paneled with traditional Hinckley vent pattern
MASTER STATEROOM:
Aft to port is the Master Stateroom that has a private ensuite head forward to starboard.
The Master Stateroom features include:
- Wide berths are port and starboard.
- Drawer and drop-front storage under the berths.
- A seat is inboard of each berth.
- Large storage locker on center
- Large opening port to the cockpit.
Ensuite Private aft head:
A solid mahogany door, located to starboard within stateroom, accesses the Owner's private head with shower.
Features include:
- Harvest Gold Formica countertop.
- Stainless steel sink with fixtures, including a hand-held telephone shower.
- Hot and cold pressure water.
- Tecma marine head plumbed to holding tank.
- Built-in waste bin.

MAIN CABIN: Incorporates the Galley, Nav Station and Main Salon.

GALLEY Area:
To port of companionway is the galley, features include:
Galley Aft:
- Formica counters in Tan Irish Linen
- Located on aft end of the counter is refrigeration: accessed via 2 lift open hatches. Capacity is 9 cu/ft. Compressor is not functional.
- Located on the forward end of the counter is a pot/pan locker: accessed via a lift off hatch.
- Outboard of pot/pan locker and oriented forward is a double basin SS galley sink. Pressurized hot and cold water.
- Utility storage locker is located beneath sink cabinet
- Pantry, cutlery, and plate storage is outboard of counter
- Mug/cup racks on forward and aft galley bulkheads
- Shipmate 3-burner propane stainless steel range with oven - stove cover stows behind stove.
- Task lighting over counters.
NAVIGATION STATION:
To starboard of the companionway is nav station.
Nav area features include:
- Station is fitted out in Mahogany casework with White Formica table

- Opening overhead hatch with a screen allows for natural light and ventilation.
- Port settee is U-shaped, wraps around the table, and has upholstered seatbacks. Table can be dropped becoming a filler to convert settee into a berth.
- Above/outboard of pert settee is a shelf for books or other sundry items
- The starboard settee can slide inboard to expose a single berth
- Seatback of starboard settee is comprised of six drawers.
- Above starboard settee is a fixed pilot berth.
