Description
Lemsteraak in Roef execution
The Marendorp is a Lemsteraak of 13 meters that has been completely renovated in the past 5 years.
It is a sturdy yet elegant sailing ship, built in 1972. The ship has a luxurious appearance. The large cockpit is beautifully crafted with wood carvings, and the deck is covered with teak wood. The cabin includes a galley, large seating area, toilet, and modern navigation equipment. The ship is 4.75 meters wide, has a draft of 90 centimeters, weighs 21 tons, and has a sail area of 120 m2. The Marendorp belongs to the VA class in the Netherlands and has sail number VA 63.
The Marendorp is built according to the same graceful lines as the Royal yacht “De Groene Draeck.” In the 1970s, four Lemsteraken of this design were built at the De Jong shipyard in Durgerdam. Although the Marendorp has always been used as a family ship, it is also considered one of the founders of modern competitive sailing in this class on the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea.
The design of the Lemsteraak is based on the traditional Dutch flat-bottomed boat, which was used as a fishing boat at the beginning of this century. In the shallow waters of the Zuiderzee, it was possible to sail well using leeboards instead of a keel. The fishermen used the large Lemsteraken for transporting eels to London. Nowadays, the ships are used as luxurious sailing yachts and rebuilt to modern standards.
The renovation includes, among other things: renewal of the cockpit, new navigation 2024, electronic system replacement 2020/2024 including separation transformer, interior upholstery 2021, new mast and rigging 2023, jib boom 2023, boom 2023, sails 2021, paintwork 2025. The modern Steyr diesel engine was installed in 2012.
