Description
Gaviota – A Timeless Cal 2-46 with Modern Upgrades
Don’t let her birth year fool you—Gaviota, a 1974 Cal 2-46, is anything but outdated. Lovingly maintained and extensively upgraded by a conscientious owner, this yacht represents a rare opportunity to own a proven cruiser with all the right improvements already in place. Built during an era when quality construction came standard, this Bill Lapworth-designed vessel combines robust bluewater capability with a layout that still competes with modern designs.
Her current owner spared no expense in making this boat turnkey-ready, with thoughtful upgrades that enhance safety, comfort, and long-range performance. While he knows he won't recoup his full investment, his care and attention are your gain. Cosmetics and general maintenance are to the highest of yacht standards. It is safe to say that no finer Cal 2-46 exists today.
From the engine room to the rigging, electronics to interior comforts, Gaviota stands well above others of her vintage. Whether you're planning extended cruising or looking for a comfortable liveaboard with pedigree, she deserves a serious look.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The Cal 2-46 is known for its spacious and comfortable layout, and GAVIOTA features a thoughtfully redesigned interior, ideal for extended cruising. Her raised mid-cockpit configuration allows for a generous and well-lit main salon below with large tinted windows w/new frames offering excellent visibility and natural light.
She can sleep six comfortably in two private staterooms and the main salon. The aft cabin features a large double berth with abundant storage and en-suite access to the head and shower. The forward guest stateroom includes a V-berth and ample cabinetry. Both heads are fresh water Vacuflush, with vanities and showers. Rich teak joinery, updated upholstery, and carpeted soles create a warm, classic nautical atmosphere. The navigation station is located just aft of the salon with a full electronics suite and excellent visibility to the helm.
The U-shaped galley is fully equipped for live aboard comfort with propane stove/oven, microwave, top-loading DC refrigeration and separate freezer, double sink, and generous counter and locker space.
