Description

The Hudson 44 is a full keel, center-cockpit, staysail ketch that was built as a blue-water cruising boat, but also makes a wonderful liveaboard. This traditional style, William Garden designed ketch, has a 3 stateroom layout, great for a family. Her 80 hp Ford Lehman diesel runs well. In the windowed area is the galley and dinette, so the chef can always see out. Owner's circumstances have changed and he will not be able to complete the refit to sail it across the Pacific, so check on Full Specs to see all the work involved and the equipment she has to offer.

Located in La Paz, Mexico, at the gateway to the Sea of Cortez—a destination famously called “The World’s Aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau—this yacht is positioned in one of the world’s most breathtaking cruising grounds. From La Paz, you’re within reach of countless pristine anchorages, warm turquoise waters, and white sand beaches, all just a day’s sail away from local marinas and the vibrant La Paz Malecon. Our team of yacht experts is ready to show you just how easy it is to start your cruising journey here in Mexico!

Owner's comments

We purchased the boat in 2018 to sail around the world. In 2019 we hauled it out and began a complete restoration/refit. I am a offshore sailor with 30,000 miles of Pacific ocean experience and a shipwright by trade. This boat is a perfect blue water cruiser that is heavily built and very stable to take you anywhere in the world in comfort. The boat is no slug either, can easily sail at 7 knots.

There is an intense amount of teak inside and out with 1” thick solid cabinetry. No one could afford to build this boat again and the original teak is impossible to find anymore. The good part is all the teak is in excellent condition!

I have been going to La Paz every 6 months to work on the boat for a month at a time. I have only used the very best materials and have overseen all the work or have done it myself. No expense has been spared with this refit and all the major work has been finished already. I hired a very experienced crew to rebuild the deck and they did an excellent job! Unfortunately, I am selling the boat because our plans have changed. I am now permanently living in the Philippines building a beach resort and cannot find the time to sailed it across the Pacific. I am not just losing a ton of money, time and effort but also a big part of my heart. This was truly a work of love. Whoever gets this gem will be very lucky and fortunate to have one of the best boats around.

Items needed to complete refit:

  • Cabin ceiling needs repaired and reinstalled in places.
  • Forward cabin needs floor installed Needs new Dodger
