Description
The Catalina 30 Owner's Association notes, "The traditionally styled Catalina 30 remains extremely popular due to its exceptional volume above and below decks and for its stability under sail. She offers more space than a typical 34' boat", and she's easy and fun to sail as well. It's easy to see why the Catalina 30 is one of the best selling 30 foot boats ever built; she's still in production today, almost 30 years and after her introduction.
Jack Horner, a well-respected marine surveyor based in Annapolis, MD, notes, "By the end of 1997, more than 6,400 Catalina 30s had been built (note that number is now well over 7,000). This is an impressive number, but it becomes even more remarkable when looked at in perspective. Consider that you could combine the production of ten of the most popular 30' model sailboats built in the US over the last 25 years and still not approach the number of Catalina 30s built. Catalina literature boasts this is the most popular 30' boat worldwide, a claim that would be hard to dispute."
Given the boat's success and popularity, it comes as no surprise to learn that the Catalina 30 was inducted into the American Sailboat Hall of Fame in 2001. The nomination referred to the vessel's timeless design and production ingenuity, and states that its "overall excellence has made the sport of sailing better".
The bottom line is that it's hard to beat these popular boats, and this particular example had the same meticulous owner for 26 years and it SHOWS--she's neat as a pin inside and out, definitely one of the nicest examples of a Catalina 30 that we've seen in quite some time (the 1980s were a long time ago now and there's a lot of junk out there!)
Note last hauled and bottom painted November 2023, very clean the Universal diesel last serviced in February 2024, and, most importantly, all new standing rigging in December 2024--rigging has gotten FRIGHTFULLY expensive!
Also note she's lying in a potentially transferable downtown Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip--there's a long wait list to get into the marina here so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage, all in all a nice inexpensive turn key package!
Motivated owner, offers encouraged.
