Description
There were a number of different generations of Catalina 34’s built. Vesper is the MKI generation which were built between 1986 and 1995. They are moderately displaced with a long waterline, fin keel and spade rudder and the large sail area ensures good sailing performance. Catalina’s are known for good performance, accommodating interiors and are considered a good value for your pocketbook. The MKI is a wholesome coastal cruising vessel also suitable for island hopping. In Europe some have even ventured out on the North Atlantic. Her inviting interior sleeps 7 between the forward double, port settee in the main cabin and the dinette which converts to a double as well as a comfortable aft cabin. Catalina galleys seem to be well organized and functional. It’s L-shaped, with double SS sink, top loading ice box and plenty of counter space for food preparation. While preparing your meal, you face your family or guests seated at the dinette. Across from the galley is a chart table/nav station and just aft is the privately enclosed head. Opposite the head at the starboard side of the companionway is the entrance to the spacious aft cabin secluded, like the head, with a solid teak door. Steps to the companionway lead to a large entrance for easy access down below or to the cockpit. Behind the steps is easy access to the inboard diesel. The self-bailing cockpit’s seats are large enough to sleep on or full out catch sun. The stern rail opens up to gain access to the transom-mounted swim platform engineered into the normally bare transom which folds out of the way when not in use. The platform also has a telescoping ladder which drops deeper into the water, making boarding easier than a typical transom-mounted ladder. Her shoal keel and spade rudder facilitate predictable tracking and steering with the wheel makes for finger tip control. The mast is keel stepped. The owner has medical issues and so reluctantly is selling the boat. Many upgrades have been incorporated into the boat.
