Description
The Shannon 28 cutter "New Morning" is one of the most spectacular Shannons ever built. Every owner of this Shannon has fulfilled their obligation to pass on the boat in better condition than they found her. In the case of the current owner that included replacing the Yanmar three cylinder diesel as part of a refurbishing and upgrades list that exceeds the current asking price. We know it will be similarly special owners who also have aspirations to own arguably the world's finest pocket offshore cruiser and long distance passagemaker - the Shannon 28 "New Morning." DESCRIPTION
The interior of "New Morning" is finished “Herreshoff style” in beautifully varnished teak and white laminates for a more spacious feeling. It is configured in Shannon's "A" layout.
Starting forward, there is easy access to the split anchor locker. Next are V-berths with storage under and shelving and lockers along the V-berth’s length. A generous hatch with solar fan and screen and adjacent cowl/dorade vents ensure superior ventilation even on the warmest nights. A unique design for storage of the filler cushion and board results in an additional seat that is convenient at the dining table. Beneath the insert is generous storage.
The main cabin has settee berths port and starboard. The berths slide inboard, and together with alcove foot extensions they form two more adult-size berths. Beneath these extensions and behind the back cushions you will find additional storage. There are custom shelves and lockers above and outboard of the settees and water tanks under. A custom slide out chart table is located on the starboard along with auxiliary equipment controls. The chart table, which is handy to the galley, provides additional counter space. A custom teak, drop leaf table is ideal for dining below without obstructing movement in the cabin. Aft of the port berth is a hanging locker with deep shelving and counter top, followed by an enclosed head area.
The head includes a marine toilet with holding tank and waste treatment system, as well as a waste system monitor and key switch control for overboard discharge when permitted. There is also a vanity with a sink and hot and cold pressure water. The sink faucet has been modified with a new pullout shower handle for on-board showing (an a shower drain pump is built into the floor). There is an opening port in the head and numerous lockers for storage.
Opposite to starboard is the well-appointed galley. The deep sink is forward, served by hot and cold pressure water. The brand new (2005) two-burner CNG gas stove with an oven is located between the sink and the ice box. The large, thickly insulated ice box, which has a Sea Frost freezer and refrigeration system, is aft. There are numerous lockers for storage and a unique shelf beside the sink that uses the stove cover for additional counter space. An opening port offers good ventilation.
Behind the companionway ladder is the AC/DC electrical panel, engine access door, VHF radio, and storage bin for tools, etc.
Six bronze portholes with screens ensure that the cabin is always bright and well-ventilated. Interior lighting includes overhead fixtures, LED reading lights above settees and in the V-berth and under-counter galley lighting. The cabin sole is teak and holly. Stereo/speakers add ambience to the truly lovely cabin.
The Shannon 28 is extremely well constructed and built with the integrity of all of the larger Shannons. "New Morning" was built using NPG-iso gel coat and vinylester outer skin laminates. Also her deck is PVC foam cored instead of less expensive balsa core that can absorb water. As the last Shannon 28 built, she received many custom cabinetry features.
