Description
Porque no? means "Why not?" and for anyone with a dream, its a good question to ask. If you are dreaming of new adventures, a new learning curve, or adding a floating magic carpet to your family, this 1989 Hunter Legend 35.5 deserves a look. The Legend 35.5 sails well; it is easy to manage; it is comfortable and safe. And this one comes at a very reasonable price.
With a high aspect 7/8ths rig, the Legend is a high performing sailer, especially in the PNW's summer light air. It doesn't take much to get this boat ghosting along under sail. With a winged fin keel, long waterline, light-moderate displacement, and wide beam carried aft, this boat scoots under sail without being pushed over on its ear. Sailboats are more fun when they're not having to be motorboats because of light air. In Porque no? you can turn a light 5 knot breeze into 3-4 knots made good to windward.
All control lines lead aft to the large cockpit, making sail management easy for shorthanded crews. The Dutchman flaking system easily stows and then releases the full batten main while the new roller furling genoa comes out in seconds, making the transition to sail fast and easy.
For those weeks' long cruises, Porque No? becomes a comfortable home away from home with hot/cold domestic water, a deep double sink, a 2-burner propane stove top and oven, and a spacious refrigerator that runs off the 12V bank as well as the120V shore power. There are 2 double berths, aft and forward, with the main cabin settee becoming a third, allowing for comfort and space for friends or kids. With plenty of stowage, a wide beam, 6' 3" headroom, and plenty of portlights and hatches, the Legend has a spacious and thoughtful layout that feels just right. The head is spacious and well lit, with a luxurious sit-down shower. The galley has just enough room for what's needed, while being secure underway.
On deck, the fully covered cockpit has a walk-through transom and fold down swim ladder that is just brilliantly designed. For safety and convenience, anyone in the water can climb out and get back onboard, sit on the scoop seats and rinse off with warm fresh water via the cockpit shower.
Moving forward along the wide side decks is safe and secure, with the chainplates well inboard of foot traffic.
When it's time to anchor, the Bruce anchor (preferred in tidal areas where the ability to quickly reset is paramount) and the shoal draft keel makes it easy to sneak deep inside the coves and anchorages, ducking in close to shore, out of the swell. The inflatable dinghy is easy to deploy off the davits.
Heading back in to the slip, all sails stow away easily and the reliable Yanmar 27 h.p. inboard fires right up. The fin keel and big spade rudder help the Legend maneuver very well in today's tight marinas ensuring confidence and ease as you come into tight quarters. In forward and reverse, this boat spins on a dime and goes where you nudge it. No intimidation at the helm.
Her current owners (20 years) have maintained a long history of care and maintenance. She was hauled and bottom painted last year.
The Hunter Legend 35.5 is light-middleweight: fast, responsive and built for fun and ease. For coastal cruising this boat may be near perfect.
And "Why not?" Priced very competitively, "Porque No?" offers you an easy way in. Please call with any questions or to schedule a viewing.
