Description
Buying VOLARE, a 1991 Mason 44 with a history of Caribbean cruising, offers more than just a sailboat; it's an opportunity to acquire a proven, well-maintained offshore vessel with a soul. Unlike a boat with a limited sailing record, VOLARE has been thoroughly tested and refined by a family who lived aboard and relied on her seaworthiness. This hands-on, long-term cruising experience means that any weaknesses have likely been discovered and addressed, leading to a vessel with thoughtfully chosen upgrades and optimized systems for maximum comfort and reliability at sea. The rich history of this particular boat—navigating beautiful Caribbean waters—adds an undeniable romanticism and the promise of future adventures. A boat with liveaboard experience, especially one used for extensive cruising, is typically a well-cared-for vessel, not a neglected weekend toy. The previous owners were not just occasional sailors but full-time residents who depended on their boat, ensuring all systems—from plumbing and electrical to the engine and rigging—were kept in top working order. The warmth of the handcrafted teak interior and spacious, well-ventilated layout provides a comfortable and practical living space, a testament to its design and the care it has received. VOLARE is a robust, handcrafted beauty built for reliable performance and enduring quality. Her solid fiberglass hull and heavy build give her a sea-kindly motion and the proven strength to handle demanding offshore conditions. Purchasing this sailboat isn't merely a transaction; it's an investment in a vessel with a proven record, seasoned systems, and the ability to turn your own cruising dreams into reality. The years of care and the unforgettable Caribbean voyages of her previous family have imbued this boat with a readiness and character that new builds simply can't offer.
Evidence of her continued maintenance and upgrades includes:
New in 2025:
Extensive Refit in 2019 ($80k) including all the following: Updates and Upgrades in 2015: Upgrades and Updates in 2010: Take a moment to read the detailed descriptions in the Other Details section. Call today to make an appointment for a private showing of VOLARE.

Volare offers a classic, spacious, and practical tri-cabin layout, designed for comfortable and elegant long-distance cruising. The forward stateroom provides a king-sized V-berth with a filler insert and excellent ventilation, along with extensive storage in louvered lockers and drawers. A large head with a separate shower stall is situated just aft of the forward cabin. The main salon includes a U-shaped dinette to port with a custom teak table and a settee to starboard that can function as a sea berth . A well-equipped, U-shaped galley is aft of the salon, featuring ample counter space, a double stainless steel sink, and cold-plate refrigeration with a top- and front-loading refrigerator.
