The Holman and Pye designed Oyster 406 is the smallest Oyster deck saloon model and was in production between 1985 and 1991, during which time 35 were launched. Created from the outset as a long-range bluewater cruising yacht, but at a manageable size and cost, the 406 has proven itself to be a safe and comfortable circumnavigator. A little sister to the 435, the 406 inherited many of the 435’s offshore features: encapsulated keel, full-length rudder skeg protecting the entire rudder, keel stepped mast, and single skin hull construction with stiffness provided by massive ribs and stringers.

The standard layout provided comfortable cruising for four, with two double cabins, both en-suite, the forward head having a clever ‘Jack and Jill’ door arrangement. The saloon has a further two possible sea berths on the settees. The spacious owner’s stateroom aft can be reached via the corridor galley or via the owner’s head/shower aft of the chart table. The 406 is strong and solid, a proper cruising yacht in a compact package.

Zoonie was supplied as a hull and deck moulding to her first owner in 1991 and fitted out to an excellent standard by Cambrian Marine. She is now in fourth ownership; her current owners having circumnavigated from June 2015 to June 2021. As you’d expect, she has been thoughtfully upgraded and very well cared for. She has a simple sloop rig with in-mast furling, which means that she can be sailed from the security of the cockpit. Below decks, she sleeps four in two double cabins, with another two berths possible in the saloon.
