Najad 440

The Najad 440 is a well-crafted, classic cruising yacht, designed with a focus on both aesthetics and practicality. The vessel features a graceful hull of white gelcoat, a moderately high freeboard for dry sailing, and a spacious teak deck that provides a safe, slip-resistant surface underfoot. Stainless steel fittings, wide side decks, and flush hatches add to its robust, high-quality appearance.

SY Hellerwest is the last 440 but is the first 441 hull shape with a sloping stern with steps. The centre cockpit is deep and sheltered, offering excellent protection with a fixed windscreen and comfortable, high coamings. The cockpit has spacious seating, a central steering wheel, and a folding teak table, perfect for relaxing on board or entertaining guests. At the aft, there is a large swim platform built into the transom, making it easy to get in and out of the water or board from a dinghy.

Inside, the saloon is bright and welcoming, with rich mahogany woodwork and plenty of daylight streaming through large portlights and overhead hatches. The main seating area is a U-shaped dinette with a matching settee, all of which surround a sturdy table that can also serve as a navigation station. The galley, located near the companionway, is compact but offers everything needed for long trips: a gimballed stove, double sinks, refrigerator, oven, and ample storage.

SY Hellerwest offers a forward cabin with a large V-berth and lockers, a bunk cabin and an aft master stateroom featuring a generous double berth and an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower. There is ample storage throughout, featuring well-crafted cabinetry and under-berth compartments. Both bathrooms are spacious, fitted with separate shower stalls and marine toilets, all finished with quality woodwork.

Materials throughout the boat are of high quality, including satin-finished mahogany or teak wood and brushed stainless steel hardware. The floorboards are solid wood. This attention to fit and finish is a hallmark of Scandinavian yacht building.

Large windows and multiple hatches make the interior feel open and airy during the day, while well-placed overhead and reading lights create a warm atmosphere at night.

The yacht is powered by a strong 90-horsepower Volvo Penta engine, providing reliable propulsion for docking and calm conditions. It is also equipped with a powerful Vetus bow thruster, enhancing manoeuvrability in tight spaces. Additional equipment includes a generator, wind vane self-steering system, radar, and chartplotters, which all contribute to safe and comfortable long-range cruising.

The sails are in excellent condition: the Genoa is only one year old, the mainsail is three years old, and the Cruising Chute, Spinnaker, and Staysail are all as new. These modern and well-maintained sails contribute to excellent sailing performance.
