“Luna Danns” is a great example of Sweden Yachts capabilities and standards. Swedish engineering standards at its finest are apparent throughout construction and execution. This is a fine yacht with leading edge systems along with exceptional joinery and finish work. Three very comfortable staterooms, plus crew create a comfortable and private cruising environment. The Yacht is simple to manage with her hydraulic systems and exciting to sail with sail enough to be fast and stable!

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Sweden Yachts 70 is a very special boat. She holds to the successful concept that carries through the Sweden Yachts fleet: the optimal combination of elegance, functionality, and quality in an upper class dimension. The construction of this craft is highly specialized according to the owner's needs. Sweden Yachts: Our fast, safe sailing craft originate from the demands made by both the archipelagos with their rapidly changing winds and unpredictable seas, and the heavy weather and imposing waves not infrequently produced by the mighty North Sea. Responding to the ocean's demands, Sweden Yachts constructs sailboats of extreme comfort that handle easily and require only minimal maintenance. The deck and hull are constructed of end-grain balsa core sandwiched between hand-laid fiberglass roving and mat to provide an extremely strong and rigid, yet light, construction. The teak decking is specially selected and hand-laid, bonded to the deck with polyurethane and secured by stainless steel screws. The hull and deck are bonded with polyester filler and the aluminum toe rail is bolted through the deck and hull flange before being sealed. The lead-antimony keel is secured with cast-in stainless steel bolts with a hoisting lug fastened to the keel bolts for convenient lifting. The balanced spade rudder is designed for maximum reliability, accuracy, and fingertip control, and is molded in fiberglass using roving and mat for maximum strength. The rudder stock is of stainless steel with two upper roller bearings and a bronze bearing in the heel. The quiet, smooth running Volvo Penta engines are mounted on a glass fiber bed, molded integrally with the bottom reinforcement, and filled with heavy ballast for maximum stability. The steel beam system, specially designed by Sweden Yachts, allows heavy rigging loads to be taken by the bulkheads without the need for additional internal reinforcement. In addition, the tempered glass ports have double aluminum frames. The wiring runs through conduits above the water line, while hoses are laid through ducts placed below the floorboards. Winches and heavy deck fittings are reinforced with plywood core and heavy backing plates. The stainless steel mast step is bolted to the integrated bottom reinforcement system which absorbs and distributes forces from the mast, rigging, and keel.

Catpain's Comments

Her handling under sail is precise and rewarding; 10.5 knots plus, upwind when fully powered up.

With her big wheel and cable steering, the helm is a sailor’s delight, providing excellent feel and response. One can easily sail her alone and feel confident to sheet and furl all the sails whenever necessary. With the hydraulic backstay, one can quickly adjust the rake of the tall, elegant spar to suit conditions.

The staysail is particularly useful in gusty and/or trade wind conditions, or reefing down for the night when passage making. Downwind, in light airs, she benefits with an enormous asymmetric spinnaker that is contained in a sock, hoisted to the masthead and then deployed. Two people can do this. The yacht’s motif on the spinnaker- the goddess Nike singing to the crescent moon in gold, on a sea-blue background - is a very stirring sight to behold and it is fun sail to fly.

The wing keel provides a perceptible dampening to rolling and gives bite into the water when sailing to windward. The resulting 8.5 ft draft allows for more cruising areas access to be visited and less exposed anchorages.

Under engine, 8.5 knots cruising speed is sustainable. She maneuvers responsively, almost inside her own boat length using the controlled pitch propeller, without recourse to the new bow thruster.

The full width salon provides for a feeling of open space and is the center of the yacht’s social function. There is ample dining seating for six to sit formally, while still allowing for free movement fore and aft.

The galley and drinks service area are close enough to respond, yet abaft and separate enough to be able to move, independently of the guests. As the chef, one appreciates having two freezers and three fridges. One can provision for eight and keep everything fresh and stowed.

Overall, the yacht is most seamanlike; the deck and cockpits are very well thought out and the interior is pure quality - rich, inviting, extremely convivial and very cleverly designed.

The shape of the yacht is sleek and powerful with a fine entry to the water forward, flaring out to her full, buoyant beam before tapering aft to her elegant transom. With her understated sheer, long overhangs and tall rig, she is a very beautiful yacht indeed. Her enviable mélange of performance, looks and luxury makes her admired by all, wherever she goes.
