Description
The 30' Dark Harbor 20 was designed in 1934 by Sparkman & Stephens for one-design racing at the Tarratine Yacht Club on Islesboro, ME, where these sleek marconi rigged sloops continue racing to this day.
BRIGHT BAY (Originally GHOST) was built of cold-molded wood/epoxy construction in 1997 by John England and Taylor Allen at Rockport Marine in Maine. She was John England's first new build with Rockport Marine and the first cold-molded boat built by the yard. Done on speculation to show the world what they were capable of together; she was the first in a series of larger high-profile cold-molded yachts.
BRIGHT BAY was built to exacting class specifications, with the only departure from the original design being the curved, elliptical cabin trunk and cockpit coamings - which were thought to be more attractive, and are doubtlessly more comfortable than the originals. Below there are two settee-bunks with comfortable sitting headroom for an afternoon nap or a weekend "camp-cruise"
In December 2021 Artisan Boatworks replaced all of the deck hardware with black Harken Carbo (except that which was bronze), refinished all of the paint and varnish, added a small carbon bowsprit, and new Doyle racing sails, including an asymmetrical reaching spinnaker on a furler.
Today BRIGHT BAY is on a mooring in Edgartown Harbor and available for viewing and immediate delivery. Whether racing in local classic yacht regattas, leisurely family daysailing, or both - I can't imagine a more perfect boat.
