Description

Bristol Steel Boats. Type Icelander 43. Hull number 4.

We are proud to bring to market, this “go anywhere”  yacht. She bears the beautiful name of Aldebaran. (The name Aldebaran comes from Al Dabaran from Arabic, meaning “The Follower”. Located in the constellation Taurus, the Bull, Aldebaran is often visualized as the bull’s eye.

She is of steel construction and was built in 1999 and commissioned for use on 2000. She was built by Bristol Steel Boats and is hull number 4.

Her designer (Hywel Price)  is well known in the marine industry. Price always enjoyed sailing old gaffers around the UK’s coastline. Settling in Bristol, he took on a yard, building wonderful yachts of every material and enabling many dreams and individual projects to be realised. The Bristol workshops were, at this time, a center for creativity where the seeds were sown for many of those who now produce our best ideas for boats and masts.

This vessel is true testament to its designer’s ethos.

The current owner has also loved and treasured Aldebaran. Prospective buyers will have no problem envisaging how they can put their own stamp on this wonderful and ‘well found’ vessel which will take you around the world and back or just to the next port from Hartlepool.

The vessel enjoys a good berth at Hartlepool Marina and we would always strive to offer prospective buyers a berth with us if they so desire.

The current owner has meticulously ensured that all maintenance matters have been dealt with in good time and now this vessel presents a great opportunity to travel far and safely.

A viewing is highly recommended as this is truly a lot of boat for the money.

Hull particulars

It is important to note the construction of this vessel’s hull. It is a multi-chine long keel hull with a swing center plate. The main frames are 4mm rolled steel bar attached to steel open floors. Steel deck beams are bracketed above to support the topsides. The hull shell strakes are of 5mm steel plating below the water line. The top sides and deck areas are 4mm steel plating.

The main steel hull structure is wholly welded which was originally undertaken to a high standard by Co Coded Welding company.

There is a semi balanced NACA profile rudder on a 70mm stainless steel shaft. There is also an emergency steering capability.

The hull was grit blasted below the waterline in February 2009 and was the subject of Jotun Epoxy treatment. It was also re-painted in dark blue 2010.

The topsides are bound by stainless steel guard wires to and from stainless steel push and pull pits.
