Description

Broker’s Comment:    Aluminium, centreboard Ovni 385, fully equipped and prepared for short-handed cold and warm waters ocean cruising. A true ‘Land Rover Defender’ of the oceans.

FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:

The Philippe Briand designed Alubat Ovni range of alloy built, lift keel cruisers have built an enviable reputation as durable, go anywhere blue water cruisers. Arguably the lifting keel allows them to explore waters out the reach of normal cruising yachts.

Built to a high specification for her first French owner, she was lightly cruised in the Mediterranean until her sale to her second Swedish owners in 2013 who moved her to Gothenburg and began a comprehensive program of refit and upgrade to prepare the boat for serious offshore adventures while enjoying the boat for cruises around the West Coast of Sweden and one trip to Scotland. Sold to her third and current Swedish owner in 2023 as a replacement for his previous Garcia Passoa 54 (sold to him and then for him by Grabau International), she was renamed IKIGAI and prepared for a planned cruise down to Madeira via Scotland, Ireland, France and Portugal. During this trip, IKIGAI returned home to her build yard in Les Sables-d’Olonne where the Alubat team inspected her hull internally and externally for any signs of notable corrosion (none were found)

IKIGAI now represents a great opportunity to buy a well presented and equipped version of this rugged blue water cruiser, ideally suited to single-handed sailing, and ready to launch and sail away this year. She boasts a complete and comprehensive inventory of which some highlights include:

Two double cabin interior layout with large heads adjacent to companionway and walkthrough access to technical locker/storage space aft

    Insulated aluminium hull and deck.

    Unpainted topsides

    Tek-deck non-slip zero-maintenance deck finish

    Structural transom antenna gantry

Aluminium doghouse structure with Lexan windows and sprayhood extension

Swedish-registered and EU VAT paid, IKIGAI is now located ashore in Madeira, moments from the international airport and ready to head off either back to Europe or onwards across the Atlantic and further afield.

BUILDER’S COMMENTS:

OVNI – “THE” lifting keel aluminium yacht.

OVNIs have been designed for experienced, demanding customers keeping in mind that they are built for intensive use. They are the ideal boats for blue water sailing. Often referred to as the “4 x 4” of the seas, OVNIs live up to this description, synonymous with:

Strength: Of the hull & layout

Off road: What boat can compete for sailing anywhere and in any weather?

Safety: With its lifting keel, the Ovni can find shelter anywhere

Comfort: In rough seas, keel up, the boat glides smoothly on the water, something appreciated by everyone on board in bad weather.

Just like the ‘4 x 4’s, OVNIs have changed a lot since their initial conception: the interior fittings are now at the level of the most luxurious standards, but our constant search for simple solutions enables us to steer clear from pointless sophistication.

MANUFACTURER HISTORY:

In 1974 ALUBAT built ‘VODKA’, the prototype of the first OVNI ever: the OVNI 25. It was made of aluminium but with a fin keel. Then, the OVNI 31 soon enlarged the range, but as a weighted lifting keel boat. After that, the OVNI 28, launched in 1978, was the first aluminium lifting keel boat and although it had a bilge keel, it did set the tone for the next designs.

Later, in 1994, the yard started to build keel yachts. Today, this range includes 4 CIGALES (from 14 to 22 meters) and the 'ALUBAT 58'.

Bought out in 2014 by 14 shareholders represented by Michel Berson, president, and managed by Christian PICARD, the ALUBAT shipyard has built more than 1,500 units, all aluminium, most of which are still sailing all over the world.
