Description

NEW LISTING - OYSTER 56.31 MOANA

The 56 is Oyster’s most popular model ever; seventy-five were launched between 1998 and 2010, and it is arguably the quintessential Oyster design. During this time the 56 was the undisputed class leader and did more than any other design to establish the 56-59’ (17-18m) size range as perhaps the ideal for owners without crew; large and spacious enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in safety, comfort and style when living aboard, but also compact enough to be handled by a couple.

This model retained earlier successful Oyster design features; the single skin hull construction with stiffness provided by massive ribs and stringers, keel-stepped mast, and the full-length rudder skeg protecting the entire rudder. This model was the first to benefit from an ergonomically designed cockpit, designed in conjunction with Loughborough University, creating a space which makes relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you would expect of a serious ocean-going yacht
.

Moana is one of the higher specified Oyster 56s with a carbon GTI mast, taller ‘sport’ rig, and numerous recent upgrades and extras, notably updated electronics and instruments, replacement standing and running rigging in 2015, and new teak decks and new Volvo D3 engine in 2018.

Moana has been meticulously maintained during her most recent ownership and is a fine example of the 56, which has been a great success story.

OWNER'S COMMENTS

“We have loved every moment of our time owning Moana. After a lot of research, we bought her with the aim of enjoying some serious and safe long-distance cruising as a family. Her last owner had already invested in significant refurbishment and upgrade work at Fox’s from 2015. Among the numerous upgrades were updating the electronics and navigation equipment, valve replacement and manifold enhancements, replacing the standing and running rigging, and installing a new Westerbeke generator in 2017. In addition to this, we decided to invest further to ‘future proof’ her, with new teak decks, including teak on the saloon roof, upgrading the crew accommodation, refurbishing the bowthruster, adding a common emergency stop facility for the winches, windlass and bowthruster, Coppercoat the hull, adding a Quooker instant hot water system, new SOBA washing machine, inspection the carbon mast and standing rigging and most importantly, repowering her older Perkins Sabre with a new Volvo D3 engine and monitoring. Over the years, we have made other significant upgrades, including new Rolls AGM domestic batteries, the introduction of 12v charging for the engine and generator batteries, and most recently, a full fitted winter/weather cover for complete protection during dry storage.

Initially, we had a year away with our 10-year-old son, enjoying a transatlantic crossing, wintering in the Caribbean, and summer around the Mediterranean. During Covid, we sailed from Gibraltar, up the Portuguese coast to the Spanish Rias before returning to the UK late in 2020. Since then, we have been all around the UK, Ireland, and back into the Bay of Biscay. All of our adventures have been logged and are recorded on a website www.sailmoana.com. Moana has kept us comfortable and safe through all conditions. Whatever the sea and weather have thrown at us, she has taken it in her stride and seemed to revel in it. Every aspect of the design has been meticulously thought through by Oyster, making her perfect for short-handed sailing and easy to maintain. Her taller carbon sport rig also means that she performs superbly compared with other Oysters in her class and has taken us fast and safely, wherever the destination. It is with sadness that we are selling her, but with the family growing up, we, like Moana, are now ready for a new chapter.”
