Owner's opinion
Having sailed in the Scandinavian archipelagos in my youth, I promised myself to return there by sail, with my boat, from France. What better opportunity than retirement to initiate this project? Starting from a blank slate, the priority action was to find a boat suitable for this program, which led me at the end of 2020, after multiple visits in the Atlantic, Channel, and North Sea, to Atalante, an Oceanis 393 Clipper. Suitable for my long coastal sailing program, in seas that can be challenging, with a limited crew, very well maintained and equipped by previous owners to ensure optimal safety offshore, I took ownership of Atalante by sailing in the Atlantic towards Spain, Ireland, and England. I covered 6000 miles over 4 summer seasons during which my experience allowed me to complete or update the equipment in order to best prepare for my future journey to Northern Europe. The summer of 2025 was the big moment with a sail to Bergen in Norway via the Baltic Sea and return through the Shetlands, Scotland, and Ireland, a loop of 3000 miles in 3 months. Atalante has demonstrated reliability, safety - All standard maneuvers are brought back to the cockpit, a 55 HP engine - in all circumstances throughout these years, allowing us to enjoy its space both in the cockpit thanks to the 2 quarter benches at the back and in the saloon where the headroom and open volume make life very pleasant. Having realized my project, I am now turning to other forms of sailing and hope that its future owner will find as much pleasure as I did in sailing it.
