BROKER’S COMMENTS
The 56 is Oyster’s most popular model; seventy-five were launched between 1998 and 2010, and it is perhaps the quintessential Oyster design. During that time the 56 was the undisputed class leader and did more than any other design to establish the 56-59’ (17-18m) size range as the ideal for owners without crew; large and spacious enough for fast ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in safety, comfort and style when living aboard, but also compact enough to be handled by a couple.
The 56 was the first Oyster design to be drawn for us by Rob Humphreys, beginning a partnership that continues to this day, and he certainly got it right the first time! It is a case of evolution rather than revolution, so the 56 retained earlier successful Oyster design features: the single-skin hull construction with stiffness provided by massive ribs and stringers, keel-stepped mast, and the full-length rudder skeg protecting the entire rudder blade. The 56 was also our first yacht to benefit from an ergonomically designed cockpit, designed in conjunction with Loughborough University, creating a space which makes relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you would expect of a serious ocean-going yacht.
Just back from the World ARC, Amanzi is a proven circumnavigator. She would suit an enthusiastic sailor with her conventional slab reefing mainsail, giving her extra performance and reliability under sail. She is cutter rigged with electric furling to her genoa and manual furling to her staysail; all the sails are from 2023. Below decks, Amanzi has the alternative ‘B’ layout, which offers a different layout forward of the mast, including a large deck access sail locker. As a result of this and the forward head/shower also being located forward, the forward guest cabins are both further aft, which makes them more comfortable at sea.
Amanzi sleeps seven in four cabins, and is hand-finished in maple joinery, with traditional teak and holly cabin soles, giving her a lovely open and modern feel. This is enhanced on deck with her ‘G5’, or fifth-generation Oyster Deck Saloon, featuring the curved saloon windows. Now lying in Ipswich ashore, please do just get in touch if you’d like any further information on her, or if you wish to arrange a viewing.

OWNERS’ COMMENTS
“Amanzi is a ‘G5’ Oyster 56; one of the last of the 56’s of which 75 examples were launched in total.
She is particularly appealing to the enthusiastic yachtsman thanks to her cutter rig and fully battened mainsail, which offers dependable sailing performance and the ideal set-up for world cruising.
Amanzi completed a refit in Lymington in 2020, and the standing rigging was replaced (now covered 36,000 miles) and D1’s December 2023, new sails 2023 and new Highfield dinghy with 20hp Honda outboard. Significant periods of work were completed in 2022, 2023 (Fiji and South Africa), 2024 (Trinidad).
Amanzi has taken us very comfortably and safely around the world with the World Arc 2023-2024. After this journey of a lifetime, and ownership for 6 years, we will keep sailing but more in coastal waters, therefore we will downgrade from this beautiful blue water cruisers to something slightly smaller.”
Owner of AMANZI since 2019
MANUFACTURER'S COMMENTS
The quintessential Oyster and undisputed class leader at this size, the 56 is also our most successful model, with seventy-five launched between 1998 and 2010. Rob Humphreys designed the 56 to be large enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in comfort and style when living aboard, but also to be small and agile enough to be handled by a couple.
The 56 was the first yacht with an ergonomically designed cockpit, the result of working with Loughborough University's Ergonomics department, making relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you expect from a serious seagoing yacht. She’s a proven performer with class wins in the ARC, and also winning Cruising Class 1 at Antigua Sailing Week, beating a number of more serious racing competitors.
