Construction

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean” (or Cat B – whichever is appropriate)

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• The Sense 55’s innovative features include a wide beam, chinned hull, and twin rudders, which help maximize space on the boat, reduce heel, and improve handling.
• Monolithic GRP hull with an integral molded grid structure that is bonded to the shell.
• Longitudinal and transverse stiffeners spread loads efficiently, producing a relatively light but strong platform with good torsional rigidity for a wide, powerful hull.
• The molded fiberglass deck is bonded and screwed to the hull with a solid wood toerail that provides added stiffness along the side deck.
• Vacuum-bonded full-teak decks with caulked seams, provide excellent grip and a quality look.
• Open stainless steel forward pulpit.
• Stainless steel port and starboard pushpits.
• Stainless steel stanchions with double guradrails and openings in the guardrail to port and starboard.

 

Keel & Rudder:

• Cast-iron fin keel with bulb that is through-bolted to the hull using substantial stainless steel keel bolts and backing plates, providing grounding resistance and a low center of gravity for stability.
• Standard keel with 7’ 10” draft, offering excellent stability and upwind performance.
• Twin spade rudders mounted on robust stocks, which improve grip and control at higher heel angles.
• Rudder bushings and steering mechanisms serviced in July 2025.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

• Yanmar 4JH4-TE, 75hp. 
• Single-lever engine control.
• Yanmar control panel in cockpit.
• Water separator/fuel filter for engine and generator. 
• Foam soundproofing on engine compartment. 
• Engine access via companionway (opening with gas piston).
• Beneteau Dock & Go joystick docking system that features a rotating ZF saildrive pod and a bow thruster for excellent manoeuvrability in tight spaces. The VMU and TCU harnesses were replaced by ZF in 2022, since which the system has run reliably. 

 

Maintenance & Performance:

• 1,590 engine hours @ January 2026.
• 1,000-hour engine service performed by Yanmar SA in 2023. 
• Engine and systems serviced regularly. 

 

Propulsion & Steering:

• Flexofold 3-blade folding propeller.
• Dock & Go – joystick control at starboard helm (upgraded by ZF with new VMU and THC harnesses).
• Quick bow thruster (integrated with Dock & Go system). 
• Dual stainless-steel helms.
• Pedestals at each helm.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

• 12V DC system.
• 220V AC system.
• 24-volt system with DC/DC charger for bow thrusters. 

 

Battery Banks:

• 3 x 260 AH Full River AGM house batteries.
• 2 x 110 AH engine and generator starter batteries.
• 4 X 110 AH bow thruster battery (24V).

 

Alternator/Battery Chargers:

• Valeo 125AH high-output engine alternator. 
• 40-amp battery charger for engine and generator batteries.
• VICTRON 2KW Inverter (12/220), with Mobile Control App (installed 2023)

 

Generator:

• Onan 7 KW generator – 220 Volt installed in soundproof box.
• 1,820 generator hours @ January 2026.

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

• Water pressure system with expansion tank and inline filter.

• 40 L / 11 US gallon electric water heater (Operates off engine or 220 V electrical system).

• Freshwater / Seawater foot pump at galley sink.

• Guest cabins to port and starboard have sliding doors, ensuite heads, and abundant light and ventilation.

Owner’s Suite:

• The spacious and well-appointed owner’s suite has a queen-sized island berth with a slatted bed base; full ensuite bathroom with electric toilet, vanity, plenty of storage for longer stays on board, and a separate shower compartment.  
• Large hanging locker to starboard and hanging locker and shelves to port.
• Dressing area with makeup/office desk with leather-upholstered stool.
• 2 x drawers under bed and four cabinets forward.
• Large hull windows with curtains to port and starboard.
• 2 x large opening hatches with blind/mosquito nets for light and ventilation.

 

Guest Cabins & Heads:

• Two identical guest cabins forward of the main saloon are accessed by sliding pocket doors.
• Each guest cabin has an ensuite head with shower.
• Ample storage in a large hanging locker, cabinets mounted on the outboard side of the cabins, and a large drawer under the bunk. Additional dry storage is under the floorboards.
• Each guest cabin has overhead and concealed lighting, plus reading lights.
• The thermostat controls are easily accessible and there are multiple outlets for charging phones and computers.
• Large hull window with curtains in each guest cabin.
• 2 x large opening hatches with blind/mosquito nets.

 

Main Saloon:

• An electrically operated companionway door and three gentle steps separate the cockpit from the saloon and galley, creating a ‘connected’ indoor/outdoor living space.
• The open plan saloon has an apartment like feel, with a longitudinal galley to starboard, and a U-shaped settee and aft facing nav station to port.
• A multitude of cabinets and lockers keep gear, provisions and supplies organized and out of sight.
• The electrically operated dinette lowers to convert to a large double bunk for those extra guests.
