Direct evolution of the Dehler 38 released in 2013, the Dehler 38SQ is a fast cruiser of 11 meters. This true race-cruiser is designed to combine speed and comfort. Signed by judel/vrolijk & co, it features a fractional sail plan and an unchanged hull but optimized in 2020 through a series of adjustments to the deck, rigging, and interior. The yard positions this "SQ" version for "Speed & Quality".
- Balance and helm feedback. Press tests describe a direct, responsive, and "pleasant" helm, with a slight effort from ~10 knots of true wind, ensuring fine control under standard sail. The boat accelerates quickly in gusts and remains forgiving in maneuvers.
- Optimized sail plan
- Stability & keel types. Draft (2.03 m) and three combinations of displacement/ballast (up to 2.75 tons of ballast on a shallow keel) allow for adjustments in stiffness and program (shallow waters vs performance).
- Construction & rigidity. The balsa/vinylester sandwich limits weight, improves rigidity, and insulation. Dehler documents laminated frames and aluminum reinforcements under fittings, with a keel-stepped mast on this generation.
