1. CONSTRUCTION 

 

HULL NUMBER

Oyster 495/11.

 

STRUCTURE

Hull and deck moulded from female tooling generated by a computer driven five axis cutter to ensure fairness and accuracy, in carefully controlled and monitored conditions.

Hull skin laminated in layers of quadriaxial glass fibre cloth, with reinforcement of the hull shell achieved using L-beam frames and stringers which incorporate carbon unidirectional fibres.

 

HULL AND DECK CONSTRUCTION

Below the waterline the hull incorporates a Vinylester outer skin for its optimum waterproofing qualities. Topsides incorporate a core of closed cell structural foam for strength and insulation. The area below the waterline, in the keel and forward areas of the hull, is heavily reinforced solid laminate.

Hull structure comprises a combination of composite stringers and frames for strength and rigidity, with bulkheads in BS1088 plywood. The deck has a closed cell foam core, replaced in high load areas with plywood reinforcement.

Both the lazarette and sail locker are watertight compartments, with drainage valves and glands for penetrations. The anchor locker has a partial chain separation bulkhead and drains overboard.

 

HULL AND DECK FINISH

White hull with cove line and double boot top lines in ‘anthracite grey.’

Wrap to hull, bulwark and transom in Satin Pearl.

The hull is coated with epoxy primer and finished with Seajet Platinum 039 ‘black’ antifoul.

Teak laid decks.

Weather deck, cockpit seats, and sole areas planked with quarter-sawn teak  with no visible fastenings.

 

KEEL

High-performance bulb (HPB) external lead keel.

 

RUDDER

Twin balanced spade rudders. Stainless steel rudder stocks.

 

STERN DESIGN

A bathing platform is stowed within the transom when not in use, and is extended by a hydraulic ram system operated from deck.

The platform mates with a stainless steel bathing ladder with oval treads. 

The transom incorporates two lockers.

 

CLASSIFICATION AND COMPLIANCE

Built in compliance with the European Union’s Recreational Craft Directive (EU RCSII-2013/53/EU) to meet or exceed design Category A – Ocean.

Composite hull and deck structure designed and engineered to meet DNV/GL classification.

Ultra 35kg (77lbs) stainless steel anchor with Ultra swivel connector designed to stow in the stainless steel stemhead fitting with twin nylon rollers.

Flush deck anchor locker, which drains overboard, with a partial chain separation bulkhead for chain stowage.

 

WINDLASS

Vertical 24V capstan windlass with chain gypsy and rope warping drum mounted above the chain locker, operated by foot switches located alongside the windlass.

COCKPIT

Large protected, self-draining cockpit, separate from the twin helm stations, which have wraparound backrests to provide comfort and security when seated. Each helm seat incorporates a stowage locker with drainage.

Double mug holders at both pedestals.

 

COCKPIT TABLE

Gloss varnished, permanently installed, substantial fixed cockpit table with bottle stowage. One hinged lid gives access to an insulated GRP cool box.

 

STEERING

Twin helm stations with recessed draining foot wells. Each steering pedestal has a lectern. Engine controls are side mounted on one lectern with adjacent stop/start controls. 

Two 900mm stainless steel, twin spoke wheels.

 

DAVITS

Cooney S225 electric davits with belly bands.

GENERAL

Jib sheets are led along the inboard edge of side deck to primary winches at cockpit to keep side decks clear. A single point under-deck mainsheet system and flush deck hatches free up the flat stern deck area for sunbathing.

Stainless steel pulpit and pushpit. Pushpit quarter seats in teak.

Stainless steel fairleads, including two aft open fairleads for stern-to mooring. Stainless steel fixed mooring cleats, including two additional cleats for stern-to mooring.

Aft deck watertight lazarette locker with twin stainless steel gas struts fitted to flush teak lid. Removable sole boards to allow maintenance access to steering gear and bathing platform mechanism.

Two folding directors chairs give additional seating above and below deck. 

Aft port deck designated gas locker with teak flush lid and storage for two 6kg bottles. This locker vents and drains overboard. Stainless steel pushpit rails incorporate an ensign staff socket.

Removable dorades and guards on foredeck for forward cabin ventilation. Forced air extraction to master cabin heads.

 

3. RIG AND SAIL HANDLING

 

MAST AND RIGGING

Sloop rig with electric powered in-mast furling mainsail system.

‘White’ painted aluminium anodised mast and boom, fitted with two pairs of tapered alloy spreaders.

Both mainsail and jib halyards have a Antal sliding stopper system, enabling halyard tails to be removed for stowage.

Standing rigging is discontinuous stainless steel wire, tensioned by stainless steel rigging screws.

Control lines for mainsail outhaul, boom vang, and topping lift are led aft to clutches at forward end of cockpit.

Boom has a 2-1 mainsail outhaul system and is supported by an adjustable vang.

4. INTERIOR

 

GENERAL

Six berths in three cabins, excluding the saloon. All berths are sea berths and have lee screens fitted. Double berths have split mattresses allowing for a central lee cloth.

Interior joinery finished in European oak (crown cut vertical grain).

Hanging lockers are cedar veneer lined. Lockers are fitted with fiddles and shelves, as appropriate. Drawers have metal runners, pull shut with positive catches.

Cabin soles in crown cut European oak with ‘maple’ inlays.

Acrylic horizontal galley worktops with radiused upstands in Hi-Macs ‘Aurora Umber’ solid surface. Galley flooring in Unnatural Flooring in ‘Sea Slate’.

Two head compartments that each have Hi-Macs ‘Aurora Umber’ solid work surfaces, and splash backs with a ‘white’ under-mounted washbasin. MasterFlush freshwater flush electric toilets are fitted, together with Hansgrohe quality shower, taps and accessories. Heads have a ‘soft white’ mica finish with timber below worktops.

Headlinings in vinyl clad ‘white’ panels.

Table cover in laminated 6mm foamed backed vinyl, ‘Silvertex Ice’.

Located forward to port and accessed from the passageway, this head compartment is shared by the forward cabins and doubles as a day head.

STARBOARD FORWARD TWIN CABIN

Forward starboard twin cabin with upper and lower berths and 4” foam mattresses. Headboard upholstered in Ultra Leather Tottori ‘ Tatami Mat’, and sidepanels in Warner House ‘Jaipur Ivory’.

Hanging locker, bedside shelves, and lockers.

Opening deck hatch.

 

SALOON

Accessed from the cockpit via a set of timber companionway steps with stainless steel hand rails.

The deck saloon is extremely bright and airy with seven windows, of which two of the forward ones open to provide unbeatable fresh air ventilation.

Featuring a large L-shaped settee to starboard, and a shorter L-shaped settee to port, with stowage below settee bases. Outboard of the port settee there is a flat screen TV.

Central to the larger starboard settee is an extending saloon table, with adjustable pedestal that can be raised or lowered, to then accommodate upholstered cushions turning this into a day bed.

When the table is opened fully it provides a dining area that can accommodate up to eight people. Alternatively, the table can easily be made smaller and lowered to become a casual table.

Two Chic ‘White’ folding teak director’s chairs provide additional below deck/in-harbour seating.

 

GALLEY

U-shaped galley with a light and airy feel due to the deck saloon windows that extend aft to the galley, and opening portlight to the cockpit.

Hi-Macs solid surface worktops and wipe clean radiused upstands.

Waste bin in locker next to sink at forward end, with circular top access lid through work surface.

Crockery stowage locker, and cutlery drawer.

Located at the aft starboard end of the saloon the fixed forward facing chart table with seat is customised around the flush-mounted electronics and navigational equipment, which is strategically sited and mounted in ‘Black’ fascia panels.

The chart table has an opening lid and is ideally sized for a half-folded Admiralty chart, with drawers and lockers at the side.

Bilges coated with brushed flocoat. Other accessible areas are coated with bilge paint.

Equipment is mounted on anti-vibration mounts.

24V DC LED lighting, and 24V DC air extraction (switchable) fan fitted, which operates automatically with the engine operation.

Featuring triple seascape windows port and starboard, and configured with a double berth, with drawers beneath. 7” foam mattress split on centreline.

FUEL

Multiple access ports fitted for inspection and maintenance.

Single Racor fuel filter/water separator with warning alarm.

 

WATER

550 litres approximately (121 Imp gallons/145 US gallons) in custom made polyethylene tank, located below saloon floor, with high-capacity pressure sensing pump, deck filler and breather.

TANK TENDER GAUGES

Electronic tank monitoring system for both tanks, with backup volume calibrated dipsticks.

 

HOT WATER 

From an insulated approximately 55 litre (12 Imp gallons/15 US gallons) tank heated by the engine’s heat exchanger. A heating element is also installed for use when 230V power is available.

 

PRESSURISED HOT AND COLD WATER SYSTEM

Hot and cold freshwater system based on a high capacity water pump with PEX/PBT pipework and fittings.
